China Coronavirus Affect On Electric Bikes

Posted by Amit Jivani on

We have had received numerous questions from customers about the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and its potential impact on e-bike sales and inventory. The major electric bike riding season is approaching. Many customers will be looking to order this Spring season. We do not want to add to any unnecessary fear. However, we want our customer to have full information on how this might affect their upcoming e-bike purchase.

Below are some of the questions we have received and the best complete answer we have at the moment.

Q: Will the coronavirus affect electric bike inventory?

A: Yes. 90% of the electric bikes sold in the USA are manufactured or are assembled from parts originating from China.

Q: Will there be an inventory shortage this Spring?

A: Most likely yes. Many factories in China have been shut down for several weeks. We have received word from several manufacturers that there is a high degree there will be delays or storages of inventory.

Q: Is there a risk of virus being on the bike when I receive it?

A: It has been stated that the virus can be active for no more than a month. Shipping from China can take up to 3 months. There is no risk of the live virus being on a bike.

Q: I want a 2020 model so I would rather wait for the new inventory

A: The new model year for electric bikes is generally Fall to Fall. Most of the inventory for 2020 models are already in stock and available.

Q: Is it better to buy now or wait for new inventory?

A: It is better to buy now to avoid potential shortages or out of stock issues. Most manufacturers have current inventory of 2020 models.

Let us know if you have any further questions and we will do our best to answer them with the information we have currently available.
